Sunday 25th July - walk **** - Falkenham Church circuit – sunny periods and hot.

The forecast was for storms with heavy rain but we were right on the edge of the system moving north so missed it completely here on the East coast at Felixstowe. In fact, it turned out sunny with only a brief period of very light rain, not enough to wet the decking! So, did my exercises in the back garden for the most part, only moving indoors briefly. Mag first brushes the cats, they actually que up and really love it before continuing pruning in her lovely garden now in need of some water especially with all our water butt’s empty! With the weather still lovely with no sign of the rain I pack a picnic and we head inland away from the busy coast to have lunch with ‘Emily’ at Falkenham church again with amazing views down to the Deben and absolutely no one about, we just love it here in Suffolk. With our yummy picnic out of the way we decide to walk down to the River Deben, taking the umbrella just in case as there are some amazing unstable looking Cumulonimbus clouds, just stunning as we walk down the farm track footpath with loads of butterflies loving the blackberry blossom’s :) We turn left and take the track, the longer way which meanders up and down through wheat, broad bean and sugar beet fields, always nice to see now the many crops are doing. A few birds about, a quick glimpse of a buzzard, reed bunting, heron and sky lark but sadly not much else until we get to the river wall path where there are several gulls but no waders despite the tide dropping leaving lots of mud. There are a few boats sailing in a nice breeze and the subtle purple sea lavender looks lovely on the marshes. Then it was back up to the church and we are getting our six mile legs even though we only walked 3.62 miles, must be getting old, a quick walk around the church before the short drive home for a welcome cuppa and ice cream:) So a top afternoon enjoying the best that Suffolk has to offer!
